National Reconciliation Week – 27 May to 3 June – is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2023 is Be a Voice for Generations. The theme encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise.
Health Infrastructure formalised its commitment to reconciliation with the launch of its Reconciliation Australia endorsed Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan in February 2023.
This commitment acknowledges our opportunity to listen to and learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, partners, and community members as we plan and design culturally safe health facilities across NSW.
The Wentworth Health Service Redevelopment project team works closely with the local Barkandji knowledge-holders through Aboriginal Focus Groups and our Arts Working Group. Walks on Country and site walks have also taken place on the redevelopment site on the Darling River.
As a result of this consultation, Connection to Country enhancement is key to the design of the new hospital, which is reflected in the Inpatient Unit overlooking the river, new outdoor areas and landscaping. These design features aim to ensure everyone feels comfortable, safe, and has the environment to heal.
